Privacy Policy

This page explains, in plain terms, what Obituary Template does and does not do with the information you type into the generator. The short version: the obituary text is composed entirely in your own browser, nothing you type into the form is sent to a server, and the only data this site collects is anonymous and does not identify you.

What the generator does with your input

The obituary generator on the homepage runs entirely as JavaScript in your own browser. When you type a name, a date, or a note into a field, that text is used immediately by code running on your device to compose the finished obituary you see in the preview. It is never transmitted to this site's servers, logged, or stored anywhere outside your browser.

Your entries are saved to your browser's local storage so the fields are still filled in if you refresh the page or come back later. Local storage is a standard browser feature, similar to a cookie but not sent over the network with every request; it stays on your device until you clear it, either through your browser's own settings or by using the "Clear all fields" button on the generator, which removes that saved data immediately.

The feedback button

The generator has a small "was this tool helpful" feedback control. Clicking a thumbs-up or thumbs-down sends a single anonymous signal to this site's server: which tool you rated, and whether you clicked up or down. Nothing you typed into the obituary form, such as a name or a family detail, is included in that signal, and no cookie, IP address, or device fingerprint is stored alongside it. A flag is saved in your browser's local storage afterward so you are not asked to vote again on a later visit; that flag never leaves your device.

Analytics and advertising

If this site uses a web analytics service, it is a privacy-focused, cookieless option that reports only aggregate figures such as total visits, popular pages, and country-level location: it does not track individuals across visits or across other websites, and does not use cookies to do so. If this site displays advertising, the advertising network may use its own cookies or similar technology, governed by that network's own privacy policy rather than this one; this site does not share anything you type into the obituary generator with any advertiser under any circumstances, because that text never reaches this site's server in the first place.

What this site does not do

This site does not require an account, a sign-up, or a login to use the generator. It does not ask for your email address or any other personal information about you, the person visiting the site, in order to use the tool. It does not sell data, because it does not collect the kind of data that would be sellable in the first place: the names, dates, and personal details you enter about the person you are writing about stay in your browser, not on a server.

Once you copy or download your obituary

When you click "Copy text" or "Download as .txt", the finished obituary is handed directly to your own browser or operating system, the same way any other copy-to-clipboard or file download works. At that point the text is no longer part of this site's local storage handling described above; it becomes a file or clipboard contents on your own device, and what you do with it next, such as pasting it into an email, a funeral home's submission form, or a newspaper's website, is governed by that destination's own privacy practices, not this page. This site has no way to see, and does not attempt to track, what happens to the text after you copy or download it.

Children's privacy

This site is a general-audience reference tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since the generator does not ask for a name, email address, or any other identifying information about the site's visitor, and the text typed into the form never leaves your browser, there is no personal information collected from any user, regardless of age, beyond the anonymous, non-identifying feedback signal described above.

Changes to this policy

If the way this site handles data changes, for example by adding a new feature that requires sending information to a server, this page will be updated to describe it accurately before that feature goes live. Checking back here periodically is the way to stay current, since no separate notification list exists.

Frequently asked questions

Does this site store the obituary I write?
No. The text you enter is used only in your own browser to compose the finished obituary, and is saved only in your browser's local storage so the fields stay filled in between visits. It is never sent to a server.
Do I need an account to use the generator?
